2016 Festival of Polo Schedule, Results and Teams

There are three events that make up the 2016 Festival of Polo:

  1. Malaysia Cup
  2. 5th Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships
  3. FIP International Umpires Seminar

Malaysia Cup

The Malaysia Cup was commissioned in 2011 by the Royal Malaysian Polo Association.  It is a magnificent sterling silver cup that stand s a full meter tall, and weighs 10 kg.

The Malaysia Cup was first played for the FIP Polo World Cup Playoffs in 2011.  It was won by India, who beat their fiercest rivals, Pakistan, in the final.

This year Malaysia has invited our neighbours, Singapore to contest the Malaysia Cup. Malaysia and Singapore share a polo heritage and rivalry in Peninsula Malaysia, going back to the late 1800’s.

As a prelude to next year’s 29th South East Asian Games, the Malaysia vs Singapore match takes on test significance.  The 2017 SEA Games is only the third time that polo is being included in these regional games. Malaysia versus Singapore is a rematch of the 2007 Bangkok SEA Games Final, which Malaysia won.  Malaysia also won in 1983 when polo was first played at the Singapore SEA Games.

Malaysia hopes to maintain our unbeaten record at the SEA Games.  The Malaysia Cup is the first step in our preparation of our defence of the polo gold medal.

RMPA would like to thank the members who have supported both teams with horses to mount them for this test match.

5th Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships

The Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships was tarted in 2012, making this the 5th consecutive year.  It is recognised by WCT – Women’s Championship Tournament.  The winners of the MLPC are eligible to play in the WCT Finals, played yearly in USA.

This year the Malaysian Ladies Polo Championships will be held to benefit the PRIDE Foundation for Breast Cancer awareness.  Pledges will be accepted.
